A General Introduction

The European Parliament's Stagiaire Association is divided into 3 working groups who each work on a specific aspect of the Stagiaire Association's mission. Meeting in between the plenary sessions, the working groups are open to all stagiaires who can attend whenever their work allows them to.

Working groups are run and managed by a member of the Steering Committee. The results of the working group's on-going work are presented regularly at the meetings of the Steering Committee and once per month to all stagiaires during the Plenary Meetings. The meeting days and times vary and are dependent on the chair of the working group.

Each working group maintains a mailing list which is the responsibility of the Steering Committee member. Through it meeting announcements and other documents for meetings are sent... but since the creation of the Association's website they are now also available online.

Working Group 2 - Socials

The Working Group for the socialites, the Stagiaire Association is not exclusively an Association campaigning in favour of our labour rights. Working Group 2 is all the proof one needs. Working Group 2 is dedicated to the Stagiaire Association's task to improve the social lives of Stagiaires. Because there was no Association that addressed all stagiaires before, no events were being organised that invited stagiaires across all party lines and across all national lines. Stagiaires would often meet by chance or simply because their MEPs were working on similar issues.

The Stagiaire Association seeks to increase the opportunity for these chance meetings to happen; being able to share one's experience as a stagiaire with other stagiaires who are experiencing much the same thing can do a whole lot to make Parliament feel more human. This is what the Stagiaire Association's Working Group 2 is all about. It is about organising social events that allow stagiaires to meet after work in informal settings. Whether this is parties, or thematic events, tours, or anything else, the Socials Working Group works to ensure Stagiaires have something to look forward to in their social agenda.

Funding is always an issue - and for the time being the Working Group has focused on identifying events that they can organise whilst waiting for additional funds to arrive. Pub crawls (or bar hopping depending on where you come from) are hopefully going to be organised in the near future to allow stagiaires to meet each other. Other events like: Meet-Other-Stagiaire Lunches or a full-scale party are also being planned.
