Dear members, colleagues and friends,

The European Parliament’s Stagiaire Association (EPSA), on behalf of all stagiaires of the European Parliament, would like to express our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to both the Polish nation and the families of those who perished in the tragic events of the weekend.

We are shocked and deeply saddened by the death of Polish President Lech Aleksander Kaczyński, First Lady Madame Maria Kaczyńska and 96 other officials and delegates who died when their aircraft crashed while approaching Smolensk Air Base in Russia. The delegation was travelling from Warsaw on a mission to commemorate the Polish citizens who lost their lives in Katyn 70 years previously. This unimaginable catastrophe represents one of the worst disasters in Polish history.

In the present moment Poland is living through a time of indescribable tragedy. President Lech Kaczyński was a brave Polish patriot who always stood up for his beliefs and his deep faith in Poland. As a great Polish politician and leader, he will remain in the hearts and minds of all Polish and European people for ever.

Jako prezydent Stowarzyszenia Stażystów Parlamentu Europejskiego chciałbym w imieniu wszystkich członków EPSA złożyć na rzecz rodzin ofiar a także dla całego Narodu Polskiego wyrazy głębokiego współczucia i żalu. Proszę przyjąć moje najszczersze kondolencje! Jesteśmy zszokowani i szczerze zmartwieni z powodu tragicznej śmierci polskiego prezydenta Lecha Kaczyńskiego, Pierwszej Damy Marii Kaczyńskiej oraz wielu innych ofiar katastrofy, która zdarzyła się w Smoleńsku, w drodze na obchody siedemdziesiątej rocznicy mordu dokonanego na Polakach w Katyniu...

Obecnie Polska przeżywa wielką tragedię. Pan Lech Kaczyński był odważnym polskim patriotą nieustannie stającym w obronie wolności. Jako opozycjonista, za czasów komunizmu w Polsce, swoją postawą zawsze dawał wyraz swoim przekonaniom i wierze w Polskę. Na zawsze pozostanie w naszej pamięci, jako wybitny polski polityk i przywódca...
